يرتبط مقام الخضر عليه السلام في الموصل ببيئة تاريخية وزياراتية تجمع بين جامع قديم، وذاكرة عمرانية، ومدينة قائمة على ضفة دجلة، وتعلق ديني محلي. ويعرف الموضع اليوم غالبا باسم جامع الخضر، غير أن المواد التاريخية تدل على أن اسمه الأقدم كان الجامع المجاهدي.
ينسب الجامع المجاهدي إلى مجاهد الدين قيماز، وهو اسم معروف في تاريخ الموصل العمراني والعسكري في العصر الزنكي. وتذكر الروايات التاريخية المتاحة أن بناء الجامع كان بين سنتي 572 و576هـ، وأنه بقي قرونا يعرف باسم بانيه. وهذا يدل على أن الهوية الأولى للموضع كانت هوية جامع تاريخي، لا هوية قبر ثابت.
في العصور اللاحقة، وخاصة بعد القرن التاسع الهجري، شاع بين أهل الموصل اعتقاد أن للخضر عليه السلام مقاما في هذا الموضع. وبسبب هذه النسبة المحلية صار الجامع المجاهدي يعرف تدريجيا باسم جامع الخضر. لذلك يتعامل هذا المدخل مع النسبة بوصفها ذاكرة زياراتية محلية.
ومن المهم بيان أن المواد التاريخية المتاحة لا تثبت أن الخضر عليه السلام مدفون هنا، ولا أنه أقام في هذا الموضع، ولا أن حديثا قديما ربط هذا المكان بعينه به. فكلمة مقام في الاستعمال العربي لا تعني القبر بالضرورة، بل قد تدل على موضع نسبة أو ذكرى أو عبادة أو اعتقاد عام.
ترتبط شخصية الخضر عليه السلام في الذاكرة الإسلامية بقصة سورة الكهف مع موسى عليه السلام، وما فيها من صبر وحكمة خفية وتعليم رباني. غير أن هذا المدخل لا يجعل تلك القصة القرآنية مرتبطة بموقع الموصل، لأن مكان ذلك الحدث بحث مستقل. والمقصود هنا بيان النسبة الموصلية المتأخرة لا أكثر.
تكمن أهمية جامع الخضر في أنه جمع بين جامع تاريخي، واسم زياراتي لاحق، وذاكرة محلية لأهل الموصل. بدأ الموضع جامعا مرتبطا بحياة الصلاة في المدينة، ثم ألحقت به العامة نسبة الخضر، حتى صار الاسم الجديد جزءا من هويته.
يندرج هذا الموضع ضمن المساجد والمقامات المنسوبة في العراق التي ينبغي فيها التفريق بين العمارة التاريخية والذاكرة الزياراتية. فجعله قبرا ثابتا يتجاوز الدليل المتاح، وإهمال نسبته المحلية يحرم الباحث من فهم جانب مهم من ذاكرة الموصل الدينية.
