التعريف
أبو الطيب أحمد بن الحسين الجعفي الكوفي، المعروف بالمتنبي، وُلد في الكوفة سنة 303هـ/915م، وصار واحداً من أكثر شعراء العربية تأثيراً. تصفه كتب التراجم القديمة بقوة الحفظ واللغة، وبالإقامة في البادية للأخذ عن فصاحتها، وبانتشار شعره في الآفاق.
ارتبطت مسيرته ببلاط سيف الدولة الحمداني في حلب، وبكافور الإخشيدي في مصر، وبعضد الدولة في فارس. وجمع ديوانه بين المديح والحكمة والطموح والملاحظة السياسية وصورة شعرية شديدة الحضور، فظل من النصوص المركزية في دراسة الأدب العربي عبر القرون.
تذكر المصادر الكلاسيكية أن المتنبي تعرّض لهجوم قرب النعمانية في رمضان سنة 354هـ/965م أثناء عودته من فارس، فقُتل مع ابنه محسّد. أما بعض الأقوال المشهورة المنسوبة إلى لحظاته الأخيرة فتدخل جزئياً في الرواية الأدبية المتأخرة، ولا ينبغي مساواتها كلها بالأخبار المبكرة.
يقع شمال النعمانية قبرٌ قائم يُعد معلماً ثقافياً عراقياً مرتبطاً بموضع مقتله ودفنه. وتذكر التقارير العراقية الحديثة بناءً محلياً حول القبر منذ القرن العشرين، ثم جهوداً علمية وثقافية للتعريف بالموقع وصيانته. ولأن معالم الأرض ومجاري دجلة القديمة قد تغيّرت، فإن تعيين البناء الحالي يعتمد على انتساب محلي وعلمي حديث، لا على سجل معماري متصل منذ القرن الرابع الهجري.
يجمع الموقع بذلك بين شخصية تاريخية موثقة بقوة وبين مشهد تذكاري حديث. فهو يعرّف الزائر بشاعر ترك أثراً عميقاً في العربية، ويتيح للباحث التمييز بين الترجمة الكلاسيكية، والحكاية الأدبية، وظروف القتل، وتاريخ النصب القائم.

تنبع أهمية قبر المتنبي في النعمانية من ربط جغرافية العراق بأحد أكثر أعلام الشعر العربي بقاءً وتأثيراً. وتكشف رحلاته بين الكوفة وحلب ومصر وبغداد وفارس عن شبكات السياسة والثقافة في العصر العباسي.
