التعريف
يقع جامع ومرقد السيد سلطان علي في محلة المربعة على شارع الرشيد، وهو من المعالم الدينية والعمرانية القديمة في بغداد. وليس الموقع مجرد حجرة قبر، بل مجمع أدى وظائف المسجد والتعليم والزاوية الصوفية والاجتماع الديني لأهل المحلة. وقد جددت عمارته في عصور مختلفة، وربطته المدارس والزاوية الرفاعية في العهد العثماني بالحياة العلمية والروحية في بغداد.
ولا يتفق المؤرخون على الهوية الدقيقة أو النسب الكامل للشخص المنسوب إليه المرقد. فالرواية الرفاعية المشهورة تعرفه بالسيد سلطان علي أبي الحسن وتربطه بالشيخ أحمد الرفاعي بوصفه والده أو أحد أصول أسرته. بينما ترفض آراء عراقية تاريخية أخرى هذا التعيين وتقترح أسماء وأنساباً مختلفة. كما تقر الدراسة الأكاديمية الحديثة للجامع بأن هوية المدفون موضع اختلاف.
ولهذا لا يقدم هذا المقال نسباً واحداً بوصفه حقيقة مقطوعاً بها. أما الثابت تاريخياً فهو هوية المكان العامة؛ فقد عرفه البغداديون أجيالاً باسم جامع ومرقد السيد سلطان علي، وأقيمت فيه الصلاة والمواعظ والدروس والمجالس الصوفية. وتبقى طبقاته العثمانية ومدارسه ومكتبته ودوره في محلة المربعة حقائق مهمة مستقلة عن خلاف السيرة.
ويضيف موقعه العمراني بعداً آخر إلى أهميته. فقد صار شارع الرشيد محوراً يربط بغداد الحديثة بالأحياء القديمة وبناها الدينية الموروثة، وظل الجامع والمرقد عبر تغير العصور السياسية والعمرانية يخدم المصلين وأهل المنطقة.
ويمثل المجمع نموذجاً لتراث بغداد الذي يجمع المسجد والمرقد والتعليم والحياة المدنية في موقع واحد. وينبغي أن تقترن زيارته بالاحترام والحذر التاريخي: اسم المرقد قديم راسخ، أما هوية صاحبه الكاملة ونسبه فما زالا موضوع بحث واختلاف.
الأهمية التاريخية / الدينية
تقوم الأهمية التاريخية لمجمع السيد سلطان علي على استمرار وظائفه العمرانية والدينية والتعليمية والصوفية. وهو جزء بارز من ذاكرة شارع الرشيد وبغداد القديمة، وقد حافظ على هويته الدينية عبر التجديدات العثمانية والحديثة.
ويجعل اختلاف المؤرخين في هوية المدفون الموقع مهماً للبحث التاريخي، إذ يبين ضرورة قراءة الرواية المحلية والأنساب الصوفية وتاريخ العمارة والدراسة الحديثة كلٌّ في مجاله مع الاحترام.
وللمسجد والمرقد أهمية إقليمية كبيرة، لأنهما احتضنا الصلاة والتعليم والكتب والمجالس والحياة المحلية عبر أجيال.
