Burayha bint Musa al-Kazim, Peace Be Upon Her, was a daughter of Imam Musa al-Kazim, Peace Be Upon Him. Shaykh al-Mufid's al-Irshad names her separately among the Imam's daughters, and al-Tabrisi's I'lam al-Wara preserves the same identity in its family list. A later extraction from al-Mufid's works describes her mother only as an unnamed umm walad. No reliable individual record of her marriage, children, learning, public activity, death, or burial has been preserved. Her profile must therefore remain a concise, source-controlled genealogical entry.

Biography and historical profile

Burayha, Peace Be Upon Her, belonged to the Musawi branch of the Prophet's family. In the chapter on the children of Imam Musa al-Kazim, Shaykh al-Mufid lists her by name among the daughters after Hasana and before Aisha. The list also names several other daughters individually, showing that Burayha was transmitted as a distinct family member rather than as an alternative name for a better-known sister.

Al-Irshad places the daughters, including Burayha, among children born to different umm walads without identifying a particular mother for each woman. A later rijal extraction from al-Mufid's works states directly that Burayha's mother was an unnamed umm walad. Since no personal name or separate identity is securely preserved, the blank protected mother relationship remains historically correct and must not be completed by inference.

Al-Tabrisi's I'lam al-Wara also indexes Burayha bint Musa al-Kazim in its account of the Imam's family. Later works repeat the child list, but they do not provide a developed individual biography. The general statement attributed to al-Mufid that each child of Imam Musa possessed known merit is family praise; it does not establish specific acts, teachings, offices, or miracles for Burayha herself.

No early or classical source reviewed securely names a husband, children, students, hadith transmissions, writings, political role, journey, or charitable institution belonging specifically to her. The name Burayha also occurs for unrelated persons in other generations and narratives, so her father and Musawi generation are essential identity controls. Claims based only on name similarity have therefore been excluded.

Her exact birth date, death date, circumstances of death, and burial place are unknown. No reliable grave, shrine, maqam, city attribution, or coordinate has been identified for this exact daughter of Imam Musa al-Kazim. The historically responsible conclusion is to preserve her verified name and lineage while stating openly that the surviving evidence does not support a fuller life story.

Historical importance and legacy

Burayha's principal historical importance lies in the recorded female genealogy of Imam Musa al-Kazim's household. Her separate name helps preserve women whose individual lives were only briefly transmitted and prevents the family list from being reduced to its most famous members alone.

Her profile also illustrates the difference between verified identity and biographical detail. A classical source can establish that a woman belonged to the Imam's family without preserving her exact mother, marriage, descendants, career, or burial. Keeping those fields unknown is more accurate than filling them with later assumptions.

Finally, Burayha is an important registry-safety case because the same or similar name appears elsewhere in Islamic literature. Maintaining her full identity as Burayha bint Musa al-Kazim, while avoiding unsupported mergers and shrine claims, protects the genealogical database from homonym errors.
