परिचय
मोसुल की नबी शीस मस्जिद एक ऐतिहासिक मस्जिद और शीस इब्न आदम से संबद्ध मक़ाम है; इसे निश्चित दफ़नगाह नहीं माना जा सकता। इस्लामी कथात्मक परंपरा शीस को आदम और हव्वा का नेक पुत्र, मार्गदर्शन का वारिस और आरंभिक मानव पीढ़ियों का शिक्षक बताती है। उनका नाम क़ुरआन में स्पष्ट रूप से नहीं आता और अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों में उनसे संबद्ध कई स्थान हैं।

मस्जिद पश्चिमी मोसुल में ऐतिहासिक शहर के द्वारों के बाहर नबी शीस मुहल्ले में प्रसिद्ध इबादत और ज़ियारत की जगह थी। दस्तावेज़ित उस्मानी परिसर अठारह सौ पंद्रह से अठारह सौ सोलह में अहमद पाशा इब्न सुलेमान पाशा अल-जलीली की सरपरस्ती में बना और उसमें मस्जिद, रौज़ा तथा धार्मिक मदरसे के कार्य शामिल थे। उन्नीस सौ सत्तर और उन्नीस सौ अस्सी के दशकों में बनी नई मस्जिद और मीनार ने पुरानी बनावट के बड़े हिस्से की जगह ले ली। इसकी पहचान ने मुहल्ले को नाम दिया और स्थानीय स्मृति को आदम के घराने, मानव इतिहास की शुरुआत और तौहीद की शिक्षा से जोड़ा।
जुलाई दो हज़ार चौदह के अंतिम दिनों में दाइश ने मस्जिद और संबद्ध मक़ाम को विस्फोट से नष्ट कर दिया। नुकसान केवल भवन को नहीं, बल्कि मुहल्ले की धार्मिक और वास्तु स्मृति को भी हुआ। मोसुल की मुक्ति के बाद लोगों और दान संस्थाओं ने पुनर्निर्माण में सहायता की; मुख्य कार्य दो हज़ार बाईस से दो हज़ार तेईस में पूरा हुआ और वर्तमान रिपोर्टें बताती हैं कि मस्जिद फिर नमाज़ियों का स्वागत कर रही है।
नई मस्जिद धार्मिक जीवन लौटाती है, लेकिन खोए हुए हर ऐतिहासिक तत्व का ठीक स्थानापन्न नहीं है। पुरानी तस्वीरें, वक़्फ़ दस्तावेज़, सुन्नी वक़्फ़ अभिलेख, वास्तु रिपोर्ट और लोगों की यादें आगे के शोध के लिए आवश्यक हैं। मस्जिद की ऐतिहासिक पहचान मज़बूत है, लेकिन शीस की क़ब्र की निस्बत समीक्षा में है।
