التعريف
مرقد الشيخ أبي محفوظ معروف بن فيروز، أو فيروزان، الكرخي رحمة الله عليه هو مدفنه الرئيس المعروف في مقبرة الشونيزية التاريخية، أو باب الدير، في جانب الكرخ من بغداد. وقد ذكر الخطيب البغدادي في تاريخ بغداد، الجزء الأول، الصفحة ٤٤٤ من باب مقابر بغداد، أن قبر معروف كان في باب الدير، ثم اشتهرت المقبرة بعد ذلك باسمه. ولذلك فالمسجد والضريح القائمان اليوم يمثلان مدفنه الأساسي وسجله السيري الرئيس، لا مقاما رمزيا ثانويا.
سجل ابن الجوزي في صفة الصفوة، الجزء الأول، الصفحات ٤٦٩–٤٧٠، قصة مشهورة من طفولته. روى أخوه عيسى أنهما نشآ في بيت غير مسلم، وأرسلا إلى معلم يلقنهما عبارة التثليث، فكان معروف يجيب مرارا بأن الله واحد. فضربه المعلم ضربا شديدا فهرب. وكانت أمه تقول إن عاد اتبعته على الدين الذي اختاره. فلما رجع بعد سنوات مسلما، أسلمت أمه وأهل البيت. وحفظ الذهبي أصل القصة في سير أعلام النبلاء، الجزء التاسع، الصفحات ٣٣٩–٣٤٠، مع التنبيه إلى اختلاف الأخبار في كون أبويه نصرانيين أو من الصابئة.
وربطت التقاليد السيرية المتأخرة معروفا بالإمام علي الرضا عليه السلام. فقد ذكر ابن خلكان في وفيات الأعيان، الجزء الخامس، الصفحات ٢٣٢–٢٣٣ من الطبعة المتاحة، أن موعظة لابن السماك أقبلت بقلب معروف على الله إقبالا كاملا، مع بقائه في خدمة علي بن موسى الرضا عليه السلام. غير أن الذهبي نص في سير أعلام النبلاء، الجزء التاسع، الصفحة ٣٤٣، على أن القصة الخاصة التي تجعله حاجبا للرضا وتزعم موته بعد كسر أضلاعه في الزحام غير صحيحة، وربما وقع خلط بينه وبين رجل آخر اسمه معروف. ولذلك تحفظ الصلة بوصفها نسبة منقولة محترمة، ولا يجعل خبر الحجابة والوفاة تاريخا ثابتا.
وكان معروف متصلا أيضا برواية الحديث ومجالس العلم في بغداد. فقد سجل سير أعلام النبلاء، الجزء التاسع، الصفحات ٣٣٩–٣٤٠، أنه روى عن الربيع بن صبيح وبكر بن خنيس وابن السماك، وروى عنه خلف بن هشام وزكريا بن يحيى بن أسد ويحيى بن أبي طالب. ولما قيل للإمام أحمد بن حنبل إنه قليل العلم الرسمي، أجاب بأن المقصود من العلم هو ما وصل إليه معروف. كما وصفه سفيان بن عيينة بعالم بغداد، وعد وجوده مصدرا للخير في المدينة.
وجمعت تعاليمه بين الإخلاص الباطن والعمل. وتحفظ حلية الأولياء، الجزء الثامن، الصفحات ٣٦١–٣٦٧، قوله إن الله إذا أراد بعبد خيرا فتح له باب العمل وأغلق عنه باب الجدل، وإذا أراد به شرا فعل العكس. وحذر من الكلام فيما لا يعني، ومن طول الأمل الذي يمنع خير العمل، وقال إن الصالحين في الظاهر كثير والصادقين قليل. ولما اغتاب رجل شخصا عنده قال له: اذكر القطن إذا وضعوه على عينيك.
وتصف الكتب قصده إلى إخفاء العبادة. ففي سير أعلام النبلاء، الجزء التاسع، الصفحات ٣٤١–٣٤٢، أنه لما ألحوا عليه في السؤال عن صومه قال إنه يبدأ يومه صائما، فإن دعاه أحد أكل ولم يقل إنه صائم. وفي الكتاب نفسه أن رجلا جاءه بعشرة دنانير، فمر سائل فدفع إليه المال كله، ثم بكى وقال لنفسه: أخلصي تخلصي. وتحفظ حلية الأولياء، الجزء الثامن، الصفحة ٣٦٤، أنه شرب وهو صائم من سقاء دعا بالرحمة لمن يشرب، رجاء أن يناله دعاؤه.
وظهر أثر معروف بوضوح في تربية السري السقطي رحمة الله عليه. ففي وفيات الأعيان، الجزء الثاني، الصفحة ٣٥٧، أنه جاء إلى حانوت السري ومعه يتيم، وطلب منه أن يكسوه، فلما خدم السري الطفل دعا معروف أن يصرف الله قلبه عن التعلق بالدنيا. وتحفظ تاريخ بغداد، الجزء العاشر، الصفحة ٢٦٠، صورة قريبة استبدل فيها السري إناء جارية صغيرة انكسر، فدعا له معروف بالدعاء نفسه. والخبران غير متطابقين لفظا، لكنهما يجعلان خدمة الطفل الضعيف سياقا لقوة طريق السري الروحي. وعن طريق السري ثم الجنيد البغدادي انتقل خلق معروف العملي إلى خط التربية الصوفية البغدادية.
وروى أبو نعيم في حلية الأولياء، الجزء الثامن، الصفحة ٣٦١، خبرا مؤثرا عن خشيته في العبادة. بدأ الأذان، فلما وصل إلى الشهادة بوحدانية الله اضطرب جسده، وقام شعر حاجبيه ولحيته، وانحنى حتى خشي الراوي أن يسقط قبل تمام الأذان. والخبر تعبدي في صورته، لكن معناه أن التوحيد عنده لم يكن فكرة مجردة، بل كان متصلا بالخوف والحضور والتواضع الجسدي.
وتحفظ حلية الأولياء، الجزء الثامن، الصفحات ٣٦٢–٣٦٣، في مناقبه خبر عودة ولد مفقود. أخبر خليل الصياد معروفا أن ابنه محمدا غاب وأن أمه شديدة الجزع، فدعا معروف الله الذي له السماء والأرض وما بينهما أن يرده. ثم وجد خليل ابنه عند باب الشام مبهورا، يقول إنه كان قبل لحظات في الأنبار. وفي الصفحة التالية خبر شاب آخر عاد من الكوفة بعد دعائه. وتعرض هذه الأخبار بوصفها روايات مناقبية كلاسيكية منقولة في الكتب، لا تقارير سفر عادية.
وحفظ الذهبي في سير أعلام النبلاء، الجزء التاسع، الصفحات ٣٤٢–٣٤٣، عدة أخبار مشهورة من كراماته. رأى الناس أثرا في وجهه، فلما ألحوا عليه قال إنه ذهب في الليلة الماضية إلى البيت الحرام، وطاف، ثم زلت قدمه عند زمزم فأصيب وجهه. وفي خبر آخر دعا بالمطر في يوم حار فنزل قبل أن يتم الناس جمع ثيابهم. وفي الموضع نفسه رواية أن طرفي الماء تقاربا له عند العبور. وتقدم هذه الأخبار بوصفها مناقب حفظها كتاب سيري كلاسيكي، ولا تستعمل لإثبات دعاوى تاريخية لا صلة لها بها.
وذكر ابن خلكان في وفيات الأعيان، الجزء الخامس، الصفحة ٢٣٢، أن معروفا أوصى في مرض موته أن يتصدق بقميصه، لأنه أراد أن يخرج من الدنيا بلا متاع كما دخلها. ونقل الذهبي في سير أعلام النبلاء، الجزء التاسع، الصفحة ٣٤٤، عن أبي جعفر ابن المنادي وثعلب أنه مات سنة ٢٠٠هـ، وقال إن الخطيب عد هذا هو الصحيح، بينما روى يحيى بن أبي طالب سنة ٢٠٤هـ. فالسنة الأقوى هي ٢٠٠هـ، وتحفظ ٢٠٤هـ قولا آخر، أما سنة ٢٠١هـ التي كانت في الملف السابق فحذفت لعدم وجود سند مناسب لها في هذه المراجع.
وأصبح قبر معروف علامة ثابتة في غربي بغداد. وتضعه تاريخ بغداد في مقبرة باب الدير، ونقل الذهبي قول إبراهيم الحربي إن قبر معروف الترياق المجرب. وفسره برجاء إجابة دعاء المضطر في البقعة المباركة، لا بدعوى طبية ولا بعبادة صاحب القبر. وتذكر تقارير التراث أن الخليفة العباسي الناصر جدد الجامع سنة ٦٢٢هـ، ثم جاءت إصلاحات عثمانية، وأجري تعمير كبير سنة ١٤٢٢هـ، الموافق ٢٠٠١م. ويذكر المرقد الزائر بالتوحيد والإخلاص والعبادة الخفية والخدمة والرجاء، ويربط للباحث بين السيرة الصوفية المبكرة وتاريخ المقابر والعمران في الكرخ.

الأهمية التاريخية / الدينية
تكمن الأهمية التاريخية الأولى لمعروف الكرخي في الانتقال من زهد بغداد المبكر إلى سلسلة تعليمية واضحة. فأقواله المنقولة، وروايته المحدودة للحديث، وتأثيره في السري السقطي، ثم نشوء مدرسة الجنيد، تبين كيف دخلت العبادة العملية والإخلاص والخدمة في اللغة المنضبطة للتصوف الكلاسيكي.
وتكتسب سيرته أهمية في نقد المصادر أيضا. تحفظ صفة الصفوة وسير أعلام النبلاء خبر الطفولة والدخول في الإسلام، وتنقل وفيات الأعيان صلته بالإمام علي الرضا عليه السلام، بينما يرد الذهبي صراحة صورة درامية خاصة في الحجابة والوفاة. ويتيح عرض النقل والنقد معا احترام الذاكرة التعبدية من غير تحويل كل تفصيل متأخر إلى تاريخ متفق عليه.
