Umm al-Hasan, whose personal name is reported as Nafisa, was a daughter of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba, peace be upon him, and Umm Bashir al-Khazrajiyya. Classical genealogical and biographical sources identify her as the wife of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr and the mother of a son named Bakr who died young. Very little independent detail about her life is preserved. Her birth and death dates and burial place are unknown, and the surviving evidence should not be expanded into unsupported political, devotional or Karbala-related claims.
Birth

Her exact birth year and birthplace are not preserved. She belonged to the Medinan Hasanid household during the first Islamic century.

Death

She survived Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, but the exact year, place and circumstances of her death are not securely recorded in the sources used for this profile.

Burial or attributed place

Her burial place is unknown. No verified grave or reliable early cemetery attribution was located for this profile.

Biography and historical profile

Umm al-Hasan belonged to the Hasanid branch of the Prophetic family. Al-Mufid lists her among the children of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba, peace be upon him, and identifies her mother as Umm Bashir, daughter of Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari. Ibn Sa'd's child list likewise connects Umm al-Hasan with Hasan ibn Ali and Umm Bashir. These sources make her parentage the most secure element of her profile.

The sources usually preserve her by the kunya Umm al-Hasan rather than through a detailed personal biography. In Ibn Sa'd's account of the children of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, she is called Nafisa and then explicitly identified as Umm al-Hasan bint al-Hasan ibn Ali. Nafisa may therefore be retained as a reported personal name, while Umm al-Hasan remains the best-attested public identifier.

Her marriage to Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr is independently recorded in al-Muhabbar, Ansab al-Ashraf and al-Tabaqat al-Kubra. Ibn Sa'd states that she was the mother of a son named Bakr who died young. The exact date of the marriage and detailed domestic chronology are not preserved, so no precise sequence should be invented from the wider political history of her husband.

Al-Baladhuri also preserves a brief report that Umm al-Hasan and her attendants adopted mourning after Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr was killed. This shows that she survived him, but the sources used here do not establish her later residence, date of death, funeral or burial. Her historical profile is therefore limited to securely documented lineage, marriage, motherhood and a short remembrance of bereavement.

Historical importance and legacy

Umm al-Hasan's recorded marriage links the Hasanid household of Ahl al-Bayt with the Zubayrid family. This is a genealogical and social connection preserved by early sources; it should not be used by itself to assign her a political program or sectarian position.

Her profile is an example of responsible treatment of a limited-evidence woman in early Islamic genealogy. Parentage, kunya, reported personal name, marriage and one child can be stated from recognized sources, while exact dates, public activities, Karbala participation and burial must remain unknown unless stronger evidence appears.
