Talha ibn Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba was a son of Umm Ishaq bint Talha ibn Ubayd Allah. Early genealogical and Imami sources clearly include him among the children of Imam Hasan, but preserve very little independent biography. Nasab Quraysh indicates that he died without a continuing line, and Ibn Asakir explicitly reports that he left no descendants. Later literary tradition calls him Talha al-Khayr, but reliable details of his birth, death, marriage, public activity, and burial have not been preserved.
Birth

No secure date or place of birth is preserved; he was born during the lifetime of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba.

Death

Early genealogical sources report that he died without descendants or that his line ended; the date, age, and circumstances of death are unknown.

Burial or attributed place

The burial place is unknown; no grave attributed to him is established by reliable early historical evidence.

Biography and historical profile

Talha was a son of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba and therefore a great-grandson of Prophet Muhammad. His mother was Umm Ishaq bint Talha ibn Ubayd Allah al-Taymiyya. Both Shaykh al-Mufid's al-Irshad and Musab al-Zubayri's Nasab Quraysh include him among Imam Hasan's children.

Al-Irshad also identifies his full maternal siblings as Husayn al-Athram and Fatima bint Hasan. This family placement is essential for distinguishing Talha ibn Hasan from his maternal grandfather Talha ibn Ubayd Allah and from numerous later men with the same name. Events, kunyahs, or biographies belonging to another Talha must not be transferred to him merely because of name similarity.

Nasab Quraysh uses the genealogical expression daraja after his name, while the report preserved by Ibn Asakir explicitly says that he left no descendants. In genealogical usage, daraja may indicate an early death or the ending of a family line; it does not by itself establish a precise age or date of death.

Later linguistic and literary tradition lists him among famous generous men named Talha and gives him the title Talha al-Khayr. The title points to a later memory of goodness and generosity, but no detailed incident or strong early chain has been preserved, so it is presented as an attributed literary epithet rather than a fully documented public career.

Reliable sources do not establish a spouse, children, an independent hadith corpus, political office, participation at Karbala, a death date, or a burial place. The responsible limits of his biography are therefore his verified lineage, parents, full siblings, lack of descendants, and the later attributed epithet, without adding unsupported detail.

Historical importance and legacy

Talha's historical importance lies chiefly in preserving the genealogy of the Ahl al-Bayt accurately. His entry documents the connection of Imam Hasan's household with Banu Taym through Umm Ishaq and preserves his full-sibling relationship with Husayn al-Athram and Fatima bint Hasan.

His brief record also illustrates the method required for people with limited evidence: separate homonymous figures, avoid overreading genealogical terminology, and include a marriage, descendants, events, or a grave only when reliable evidence exists. This discipline allows a short but trustworthy public profile.
