Asma bint Imam Jafar al-Sadiq is a limited-evidence woman of the Ahl al-Bayt whose lineage is preserved in recognized Imami and early genealogical sources. Al-Mufid lists her among the daughters of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, while Nasab Quraysh identifies her mother as an unnamed umm walad, her husband as Hamza ibn Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baqir, and her two daughters as Umm Farwa and Umm Abd Allah. Reliable details of her independent education, public activity, birth, death, and burial are not preserved, so this profile remains within the strong family evidence and avoids unsupported traditions.
Birth

No reliable date or place of birth is preserved. Her documented family setting belongs to the second Islamic century as a daughter of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq.

Death

No reliable date, place, or circumstances of death are preserved.

Burial or attributed place

Burial is unknown. No reliable early or independent source and no protected primary-shrine or geographic link establishes a grave.

Biography and historical profile

In Kitab al-Irshad, al-Mufid names ten children of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq and includes Asma among his daughters. This early Imami list directly supports the existing father relationship. Ibn Shahr Ashub and later Talibid genealogical compilations likewise preserve the name Asma bint Jafar ibn Muhammad.

The detailed family entry in Nasab Quraysh states that Asma's mother was an unnamed umm walad. Because no strong source preserves her mother's personal name, the blank mother relationship has not been filled by inference, name similarity, or transfer from another wife of the Imam.

The same early genealogical source states that Asma married Hamza ibn Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir. Fakhr al-Din al-Razi's al-Shajara al-Mubarakah independently confirms the marriage. The husband's complete lineage distinguishes him from namesakes, so the originally blank spouse relationship has been completed on strong evidence.

Nasab Quraysh also records two daughters of Asma and Hamza: Umm Farwa and Umm Abd Allah. The sources preserve her place in the family through these daughters, but they do not provide reliable evidence of a son, an independent teaching career, writings, or a public office. That documentary silence has not been filled with unsupported devotional material.

No reliable independent information establishes her date or place of birth, age, date of death, or grave. The current person export also contains no protected primary-shrine or geographic link, and no later local attribution has been converted into historical burial evidence. Her importance lies in the strong family record preserving her as a daughter of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, a wife within the descendants of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, and the mother of two Alid daughters.

Historical importance and legacy

Asma's genealogical entry demonstrates the importance of preserving the names of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq's female children. Despite the lack of an independent biography, an early Imami list and an early Qurashi genealogy establish her identity through the stable combination of father, husband, and daughters.

Her marriage represents an internal Alid connection between the Jafari and Baqiri family branches. The preservation of Umm Farwa and Umm Abd Allah also illustrates how women's descent and family links often survived in genealogical books even when their personal biographies were sparsely recorded.

The profile is methodologically important for its restraint: the unnamed mother has not been given a name, no scholarly or public career has been invented from silent sources, and an unknown burial has not been attached to a local grave.
