Ruqayya bint Musa al-Kazim is recorded in Imami biographical tradition as a probable daughter of Imam Musa ibn Jafar al-Kazim. Al-Shaykh al-Mufid lists Ruqayya and Ruqayya al-Sughra separately among the Imam's daughters, but the surviving sources preserve almost no secure details about this Ruqayya's mother, marriage, children, death or burial.
Birth

Her birth date and birthplace are not preserved in the inspected sources.

Death

Her date, place and circumstances of death are unknown.

Burial or attributed place

Her burial place is unknown; no specific grave or shrine is historically established for her.

Biography and historical profile

Ruqayya bint Musa al-Kazim belongs to the Musawi branch of the Prophet's family through her father, Imam Musa ibn Jafar al-Kazim. Her identification rests principally on the list of the Imam's children in al-Irshad, where al-Shaykh al-Mufid names both Ruqayya and a separate Ruqayya al-Sughra. This distinction is important because later summaries do not always preserve the same number or arrangement of the Imam's daughters.

The early notice is genealogical rather than biographical. It does not name Ruqayya's mother and does not record a birth date, marriage, children, public role or personal teaching. The documented genealogy therefore correctly keeps her confidence at the probable level and leaves unsupported relationship fields blank.

Al-Irshad also preserves a report from a Hashimiyya woman described as the mawla of Ruqayya bint Musa. She describes the night worship of Muhammad ibn Musa, one of the Imam's sons. The report shows that a woman named Ruqayya bint Musa had an identifiable household connection within the family, but the text does not state whether she was Ruqayya or Ruqayya al-Sughra. It therefore cannot safely be used to assign personal virtues, activities or relationships to this profile.

Later works reproduce differing child lists. Al-Mufid and al-Tabrisi transmit a list containing both Ruqayya and Ruqayya al-Sughra, while Ibn Shahrashub's surviving list names only Ruqayya al-Sughra among the daughters. These differences explain why her existence can be preserved as a probable family-map identity while the rest of her life remains undocumented. No reliable source inspected for this profile establishes her date or place of death, and no specific grave or shrine can be attributed to her with historical confidence.

Historical importance and legacy

Ruqayya's importance lies mainly in the preservation of the female branches of Imam Musa al-Kazim's family. Her entry shows how early Imami compilers recorded daughters whose individual biographies were not transmitted, and it prevents women known only through genealogical lists from disappearing from the family map.

Her profile is also a useful example of responsible historical method: a listed name should be retained, but it must not be expanded with invented marriages, virtues, journeys or burial claims. The distinction between Ruqayya and Ruqayya al-Sughra, together with the disagreement among later lists, requires continuing caution.
