Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim preserve a vivid account of drought in Medina during a Friday sermon. A man stood before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and described livestock dying, families suffering and roads becoming unusable, then asked him to pray for rain. The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and repeatedly supplicated to Allah. The sky was completely clear, then a cloud appeared from behind Mount Sila‘, spread across the sky and rain began so quickly that Anas saw water running down the Prophet’s beard before he descended from the pulpit.
The man did not ask for wealth or personal relief. He spoke for the people and asked the Prophet ﷺ to supplicate to Allah for rain. The Prophet raised his hands. In the detailed narration preserved by al-Bukhari and Muslim, he repeated the simple plea three times: “O Allah, send us rain.”
Anas ibn Malik, who witnessed the scene, then describes the sky with striking precision. There was no cloud visible—not even a small patch—and no house or building blocked their view toward Mount Sila‘. Another sahih wording says the sky was clear like glass. The request had been made under an apparently empty sky.
Then the scene changed. A cloud appeared from behind Mount Sila‘, described in the hadith as being like a shield. Ibn Hajar later explains that this comparison refers to its rounded shape rather than an exact physical size, and he cites another route indicating that the cloud was small at first. As it rose, it spread across the sky. Another Bukhari route describes a wind arising, bringing clouds together until they gathered.
The rain then came with extraordinary speed. In one of the most vivid details of the entire report, Anas says that the Prophet ﷺ had not even descended from the pulpit before he saw rainwater running down his blessed beard. The people left the mosque into heavy rain. Another sahih Bukhari placement says they waded through flowing water on the way back to their homes.
The rain was not a brief shower. The reports state that it continued through that day and the following days until the next Friday. That later Friday begins a separate episode—the prayer for the rain to be redirected—which belongs to another candidate and is not merged into this one.
The miracle of CAND-0058 therefore has a beautifully complete shape on its own: drought and public distress, a direct request during the Friday sermon, the Prophet’s raised hands and repeated prayer, an empty sky, a cloud rising from behind Sila‘, rapid spreading, and rain falling before he left the pulpit. Its core is not a later devotional story; it is preserved independently in the two Sahih collections.
Conclusion
Authenticity: this is a high-confidence accepted Prophetic supplication preserved through multiple sahih routes. The strongest image is Anas’s eyewitness sequence: no cloud in the sky, the Prophet ﷺ raises his hands and prays, a cloud rises from behind Sila‘ and spreads, and rain is already running down his beard before he descends from the pulpit.
