Ubayd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baqir was a little-documented son of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir and a grandson of Imam Ali Zayn al-Abidin. Imami and genealogical sources list him as the full brother of Ibrahim, born to Umm Hakim bint Asid al-Thaqafiyya. They report that he died young during his father's lifetime and left no established surviving line. Reliable details about his birth, age, public activity and burial are not preserved.

He died young during Imam Muhammad al-Baqir's lifetime, therefore before 114 AH / 732-733 CE. The exact date, age, place and cause of death are not preserved.

Burial or attributed place

Burial unknown. No grave, shrine or maqam is historically verified for Ubayd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baqir; the shrine and GPS fields remain intentionally blank.

Biography and historical profile

Ubayd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baqir was a son of Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir, a grandson of Imam Ali Zayn al-Abidin and a Husaynid Alid. He is known mainly from lists of Imam al-Baqir's children rather than from an independent scholarly, political or hadith biography. He must not be confused with his paternal half-brother Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baqir or with later Alids named Ubayd Allah.

The child list transmitted from Shaykh al-Mufid, Taj al-Mawalid and other Imami sources identifies Ubayd Allah and Ibrahim as sons of Umm Hakim bint Asid ibn al-Mughira ibn al-Akhnas ibn Shariq al-Thaqafiyya. The protected father and mother relationships in this CSV therefore agree with the main genealogical tradition.

The written form of the name is not uniform in every printed or transmitted list. Some texts read Abd Allah where the Imami child lists read Ubayd Allah. This is especially important because Imam al-Baqir also had a distinct son named Abd Allah by Umm Farwa. The association with Umm Hakim and with Ibrahim supports the separate identity of Ubayd Allah.

Imami lists describe Ubayd Allah and Ibrahim with the genealogical expression daraja. Later compilers explain it as dying during their father's lifetime and leaving no continuing line, while some lists specifically say that Ubayd Allah died young. The safe chronological conclusion is only that his death occurred before Imam al-Baqir's death in 114 AH / 732-733 CE; the exact date, age, place and cause are unknown.

The accessible recognized sources do not verify a teaching career, transmitted reports, office, marriage, children, political activity or public incident for him. Those gaps have not been filled with invented biography. His burial place is also unknown, and no present grave, shrine or maqam can be assigned to him as a historically verified burial.

Historical importance and legacy

Ubayd Allah's entry preserves an accurate genealogical list of Imam al-Baqir's children and distinguishes him from Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baqir and other namesakes. The identification of his mother and full brother clarifies the internal branches of the family.

The profile also models evidence-proportionate biography: established parentage, death during the father's lifetime and the absence of a continuing line are retained, while birth chronology, age, public career, marriage, exact death date and burial remain explicitly unknown.
