آپ کا پورا نام کمیل بن زیاد بن نہیک النخعی الکوفی بیان کیا جاتا ہے۔ آپ قبیلہ نخع سے تعلق رکھتے تھے، جو یمنی اصل قبائل میں سے تھا اور کوفہ کی ابتدائی اسلامی تاریخ میں اس قبیلے کے افراد کا اہم کردار رہا۔ کوفہ کے علمی، سیاسی اور روحانی ماحول نے آپ کی شخصیت کو ایک خاص پہچان دی۔

آپ سے وابستہ سب سے مشہور نسبت دعائے کمیل ہے۔ امامی روایت میں بیان ہوتا ہے کہ کمیل نے امام علی علیہ السلام سے دعائے خضر کے بارے میں پوچھا۔ امام علی علیہ السلام نے انہیں بیٹھنے کو فرمایا، پھر یہ دعا تعلیم فرمائی اور اس کے پڑھنے کے اوقات اور فوائد سے آگاہ کیا۔ اسی نسبت سے یہ دعا کمیل کے نام سے معروف ہو گئی۔
دعائے کمیل کا مضمون خود قاری کے دل کو پکڑ لیتا ہے۔ اس میں بندہ اپنے گناہوں، کمزوری، جہالت، ندامت، امید، خوف، مغفرت کی طلب اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی رحمت کا اقرار کرتا ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ یہ دعا آج بھی جمعرات کی رات، مجالس دعا، انفرادی عبادت اور توبہ کے موقع پر پڑھی جاتی ہے۔ کمیل بن زیاد رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کا نام اس دعا کے ذریعے عام مومن کی عبادت گاہ تک پہنچ گیا۔
آپ کی زندگی کا سیاسی پہلو بھی نہایت اہم ہے۔ اموی دور میں عراق کا ماحول سخت نگرانی، بغاوتوں، قبائلی کشمکش اور حجاج بن یوسف کے ظلم سے بھرا ہوا تھا۔ کمیل بن زیاد رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ان لوگوں میں شمار ہوتے ہیں جنہوں نے امام علی علیہ السلام کی محبت اور اصولی موقف سے پیچھے ہٹنا قبول نہ کیا۔
تاریخی روایات میں آتا ہے کہ حجاج بن یوسف نے آپ کو طلب کیا۔ بعض بیانات کے مطابق آپ چھپے رہے تاکہ ان کے قبیلے یا متعلقین کو نقصان نہ پہنچے، پھر خود سامنے آئے۔ جب حجاج نے ان پر سختی کی تو انہوں نے امام علی علیہ السلام سے اپنی وابستگی سے دست برداری قبول نہ کی۔ اسی پس منظر میں ۸۲ ہجری کے قریب آپ کو قتل کر دیا گیا۔
آپ کی شہادت کا واقعہ کوفہ اور نجف کی دینی یادداشت میں وفاداری، استقامت اور حق کے ساتھ وابستگی کی علامت بن گیا۔ یہ واقعہ صرف ایک فرد کی موت نہیں، بلکہ اس دور کے سیاسی جبر اور اہل بیت علیہم السلام کے وفاداروں کی آزمائش کا نشان ہے۔
ثویہ کا مقام اس لیے بھی اہم ہے کہ یہ نجف اور کوفہ کے درمیان واقع اس جغرافیے کا حصہ ہے جہاں امام علی علیہ السلام، کوفہ کی مسجد، وادی السلام، اور ابتدائی اسلامی تاریخ کی بہت سی یادیں ایک دوسرے سے ملتی ہیں۔ کمیل بن زیاد رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کا مزار زائر کو دعا، وفاداری، علم اور قربانی کے ایک ہی سلسلے سے جوڑتا ہے۔
