कुमैल बिन ज़ियाद अल-नख़ई का मजार नजफ़ और कूफ़ा के बीच अल-सविय्या क्षेत्र में एक प्रमुख धार्मिक और ऐतिहासिक स्थल है। इस्लामी स्मृति में उनका नाम इमाम अली बिन अबी तालिब अलैहिस्सलाम के निकट साथी, प्रारंभिक कूफ़ा की एक महत्वपूर्ण हस्ती और दुआ कुमैल से जुड़े संप्रेषक के रूप में प्रसिद्ध है।

उनका पूरा नाम कुमैल बिन ज़ियाद बिन नहिक अल-नख़ई अल-कूफ़ी दर्ज है। वे नख़अ क़बीले से थे, जो यमनी मूल का समूह था और जिसके लोगों ने प्रारंभिक इस्लामी कूफ़ा में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिकाएँ निभाईं। कूफ़ा के बौद्धिक और राजनीतिक वातावरण ने उनकी बाद की स्मृति को आकार दिया।

कुमैल को इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम के निकट शिष्यों और वफ़ादार साथियों में याद किया जाता है। रिवायतें उन्हें इमाम अली की शिक्षा, परामर्श और आंतरिक ज्ञान से जोड़ती हैं। इसी कारण उनका नाम केवल राजनीति से नहीं, बल्कि दुआ, वफ़ादारी और आध्यात्मिक मार्गदर्शन से भी जुड़ गया।

उनसे जुड़ी सबसे प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक निस्बत दुआ कुमैल है। इमामी परंपरा में कुमैल ने इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम से हज़रत ख़िज़्र की दुआ के बारे में पूछा। इमाम ने उन्हें यह दुआ सिखाई और इसके पढ़ने के समय बताए। कुमैल के माध्यम से संप्रेषित होने के कारण यह दुआ उनके नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुई।

उनका राजनीतिक जीवन भी महत्वपूर्ण है। उमय्यद शासन के अधीन इराक़ निगरानी, विद्रोहों, क़बाइली संघर्षों और हज्जाज बिन यूसुफ़ के कठोर शासन से घिरा था। कुमैल उन लोगों में याद किए गए जिन्होंने दबाव में भी इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम के प्रति अपनी वफ़ादारी नहीं छोड़ी।

ऐतिहासिक रिवायतें बताती हैं कि हज्जाज उन्हें तलाश कर रहा था। कुछ विवरणों के अनुसार कुमैल स्वयं सामने आए, ताकि उनके क़बीले और आश्रितों को हानि न पहुँचे। हज्जाज के दबाव के बावजूद उन्होंने इमाम अली से अपने लगाव का त्याग नहीं किया। इसी परिस्थिति में लगभग ८२ हिजरी में उनकी हत्या कर दी गई।

उनकी मृत्यु कूफ़ा और नजफ़ की धार्मिक स्मृति में वफ़ादारी, दृढ़ता और सत्य के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता का प्रतीक बन गई। यह केवल एक व्यक्ति की मृत्यु नहीं थी, बल्कि उस युग की राजनीतिक कठोरता और अहल अल-बैत के वफ़ादार अनुयायियों की परीक्षाओं की निशानी थी।

अल-सविय्या का स्थान महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि यह नजफ़ और कूफ़ा के बीच उस पवित्र भूगोल का भाग है जहाँ इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम का रौज़ा, मस्जिद कूफ़ा, वादी अल-सलाम और प्रारंभिक इस्लामी स्मृति एक साथ मिलते हैं। कुमैल का मजार ज़ायरों को दुआ, वफ़ादारी, ज्ञान और बलिदान से जोड़ता है।
