تعارف

مسجد کوفہ معظمہ عراق اور پوری اسلامی دنیا کی قدیم ترین جامع مساجد میں شمار ہوتی ہے۔ یہ شہر کوفہ کے مرکز میں واقع ہے اور اس کے ساتھ حضرت مسلم بن عقیل علیہ السلام، حضرت ہانی بن عروہ رحمۃ اللہ علیہ، مختار ثقفی اور متعدد مقدس مقامات کی یاد وابستہ ہے۔

کوفہ شہر سن سترہ ہجری کے قریب حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کے عہد میں حضرت سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ کی نگرانی میں فوجی چھاؤنی اور شہری مرکز کے طور پر قائم ہوا۔ مسجد شہر کی منصوبہ بندی کا بنیادی نقطہ تھی۔ ابتدائی عمارت کھلے صحن، سادہ حدود اور ایسے بڑے میدان پر مشتمل تھی جہاں لشکر اور شہری نماز کے لیے جمع ہوسکتے تھے۔

مسجد کے اندر امام علی علیہ السلام سے منسوب محراب، دکۃ القضاء، بیت الطشت اور انبیاء، فرشتوں اور ائمہ سے منسوب متعدد مقامات موجود ہیں۔ موجودہ زیارتی نقشہ حضرت آدم، حضرت نوح، حضرت ابراہیم، حضرت خضر، حضرت جبرئیل، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم، امام زین العابدین اور امام جعفر صادق علیہم السلام سے وابستہ جگہوں کی نشاندہی کرتا ہے۔ یہ مسجد سے متعلق زیارتی نسبتیں اور یادگاری مقامات ہیں؛ الگ شہادت کے بغیر انہیں قبریں یا آثار قدیمہ سے ثابت شدہ حاضریاں نہیں کہنا چاہیے۔

مسجد کی سب سے دردناک یاد رمضان ۴۰ھ سے وابستہ ہے۔ تاریخی اور زیارتی روایت امام علی علیہ السلام کے مہلک زخمی ہونے کو انیس رمضان کی نماز صبح کے وقت اسی مسجد سے جوڑتی ہے، جب عبد الرحمن بن ملجم نے زہر آلود تلوار سے حملہ کیا۔ امام کو گھر لے جایا گیا اور اکیسویں رمضان کو شہادت ہوئی۔ موجودہ محراب عبادت، عدل اور شہادت کی مرکزی زیارتی یاد ہے؛ اس کی بعد کی معماری صورت کو پہلی صدی کی بالکل غیر تبدیل شدہ عمارت نہیں سمجھنا چاہیے۔
