این زیارتگاه در غماسِ استان قادسیه بهطور محلی به سید عبدالله بن امام موسی کاظم رحمة الله علیه منسوب است. مکان درون شهر و حدود هشتصد متر از راه اصلی نجف قرار دارد و مرکز مهم محبت موسوی برای مردم غماس و منطقه دیوانیه است. نسبت دفن محترم شمرده میشود، اما منابع اولیه آن را بهصورت قطعی ثابت نمیکنند.
عبدالله از نظر تاریخی فرزند امام موسی کاظم علیه السلام و از شاخه حسینی موسوی خاندان پیامبر بود. المجدی فی انساب الطالبیین مادر او را امولد میداند و پنج پسر به نامهای احمد، محمد، حسین، حسن و موسی و سه دختر به نامهای زینب، فاطمه و رقیه برایش ثبت میکند. نسل او به بنی عوکلانی شناخته شد، هرچند در خوانش برخی نسخهها املای این عنوان خانوادگی متفاوت است.
منابع رجال و شرح حالهای متأخر، عبدالله را با حلقههای امام موسی کاظم، امام علی رضا و امام محمد جواد علیهم السلام پیوند میدهند. گزارشهای مربوط به جانشینی پس از امام رضا نیز او را در گفتوگوهای خاندان هنگام خردسالی امام جواد یاد میکنند. این مواد وجود شخصیتی شناختهشده از خاندان موسوی را ثابت میکنند، اما غماس را محل قطعی وفات یا دفن او معرفی نمیکنند.
روایت جدید خادمان عراقی او را عبدالله عوکلانی مینامد و از روایت او از پدر و برادرش سخن میگوید. همین روایت وفات را پس از سال ۲۰۳ هجری قرار میدهد، ولی شواهد نسبی اولیه مورد استفاده تاریخ دقیق تولد و وفات را حفظ نکردهاند. ازاینرو همراهی با امام رضا در راه خراسان تنها به عنوان سنت نسبی یا زیارتی متأخر ثبت شده است.
به گفته مدیریت غماس، سنگی دارای نام و محرابی سنگچین در زیر زمین در حفظ شناسایی محلی نقش داشتهاند. بنای نخست ساده بود؛ سپس ساخت با خشت از سال ۱۹۲۵، آجر و آهک، صحن، گنبد، نمازگاههای مردان و زنان و گسترش رسمی گزارش شده است. این اطلاعات رشد زیارتگاه عراقی را مستند میکند، نه اثبات کهن قبر را.
گزارش عراقی سال ۲۰۲۶ از مجموعهای بیش از چهار دونم، حرمی به مساحت ۶۵۰ متر مربع، گنبدی با قطر حدود ششونیم متر و ارتفاع شانزده متر، آینهکاری، مرمر، باغها، تالارها، انبارها و سه دروازه نامدار سخن میگوید. طرح بزرگ بازسازی از سال ۲۰۲۱ زیرساخت، روشنایی، ایوانها، کفسازی و خدمات را نوسازی کرد. امروز هزاران زائر میآیند و تلاوت قرآن، آیینها، جشنوارههای فرهنگی، برنامههای دانشآموزی و پذیرایی از زائران برگزار میشود.
در ایران نیز مکانهایی به عبدالله بن موسی کاظم منسوباند، بهویژه بافق و زیارتگاهی نزدیک ساوه. بافق بنایی کهن و مهم از نظر معماری دارد، اما منابع معرفی ایرانی خود اذعان میکنند که دفن مستقیم عبدالله بن موسی در آن ثابت نیست و این انتساب در سدههای بعد شهرت یافته است. قدمت ساختمان نباید با قطعیت هویت مدفون یکی دانسته شود.

اهمیت تاریخی آن باید از قطعیت دفن جدا شود. عبدالله بن موسی عضوی مستند از خاندان موسوی است، اما منابع نسبی اولیه غماس، بافق یا ساوه را به عنوان قبر بیاختلاف او تعیین نمیکنند.
