Sahih al-Bukhari preserves an extraordinary report from the aftermath of the al-Raji‘ incident. After Asim ibn Thabit was killed, Quraysh sent men to obtain a recognizable part of his body because he had killed one of their leading men at Badr. Before they could reach him, Allah sent over his body a canopy-like mass of al-dabr, preventing the messengers from cutting or taking anything from him. Bukhari records the same underlying event in two placements. Fath al-Bari explains al-dabr primarily as wasps or hornets, while also noting another interpretation referring to male bees.

The event begins after the fighting at al-Raji‘, when Asim ibn Thabit and several of his companions had been killed. Sahih al-Bukhari explains that Quraysh later received news of Asim’s death and sent messengers to obtain a recognizable part of his body. Their purpose was connected to earlier hostility: Asim had killed one of their prominent men in the battle of Badr.

At this point the extraordinary protection occurs. The Bukhari report says that Allah sent over Asim something like a canopy or cloud formed from al-dabr. The messengers were unable to reach his body in the way they intended. One Bukhari wording states that they could not cut anything from him, while the parallel placement says that the protection prevented them from harming or obtaining anything from his body.

The report therefore presents the protection as posthumous and explicitly attributes it to Allah. Asim is not shown performing an action after death, nor is independent power assigned to him. The karamah lies in Allah preserving the body of a righteous Companion from the hostile attempt described in the report.

The Arabic term al-dabr should remain carefully qualified. In Fath al-Bari, Ibn Hajar explains it primarily as zanabir, meaning wasps or hornets, and also records another interpretation that understands the term as male bees. He further explains the protective wording as meaning that this mass prevented the messengers from reaching Asim. For public narration, it is therefore safer to describe a canopy-like swarm of stinging insects rather than insist on one modern species label.

Sahih al-Bukhari preserves this same underlying al-Raji‘ report in two placements. Those two references should not be counted as two different miracles. They are two textual placements of one event and establish the same central sequence: Asim was killed, Quraysh sent men to obtain part of his body, Allah sent the canopy-like al-dabr, and they failed to take anything from him.

Later historical and exegetical writings preserve additional material about vows, further protection, and other details. Some of that material may be important in wider biography, but it should not be inserted into the literal Bukhari core without clear labeling. The strongest public account of this candidate is therefore focused and source-bound: after Asim ibn Thabit’s death, hostile messengers sought part of his body, and Allah protected it through a canopy-like mass of al-dabr so that they could not carry out their aim.

Conclusion

Authenticity: this is a high-confidence Companion karamah supported by an explicit Sahih al-Bukhari report. Its secure center is the posthumous protection of Asim ibn Thabit’s body from hostile messengers by a canopy-like mass of al-dabr sent by Allah. The most faithful publication keeps the two Bukhari placements as one event and keeps later vow, flood, or protection-prayer material outside the literal core unless separately sourced and labeled.
