Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim preserve multiple authentic reports in which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ foretold that Ammar ibn Yasir رضي الله عنه would be killed by a rebellious group. One Bukhari report places the statement during the construction of the Prophet’s mosque, while Muslim independently preserves the same prediction through Umm Salama رضي الله عنها. Years later Ammar was killed at Siffin while fighting in Ali ibn Abi Talib’s army. The extraordinary core is the fulfilled foretelling; later political interpretation should remain a separate layer.

During the construction of the Prophet’s mosque in Madinah, the Companions were carrying adobe bricks for the new building. Sahih al-Bukhari describes Ammar ibn Yasir رضي الله عنه carrying two bricks at a time while others carried one. The Prophet ﷺ came past him, removed dust from him and spoke words that would only reveal their full significance many years later.

In one Bukhari route, the Prophet ﷺ says that Ammar will be killed by a rebellious group and that Ammar will call them to Allah while they call him toward the Fire. A parallel Bukhari route preserves the same mosque-building setting and expresses the moral contrast with the wording that Ammar calls them to Paradise while they call him to the Fire. The two wordings belong to parallel reports and should remain distinct rather than being fused into a single quotation.

Sahih Muslim adds independent support through Umm Salama رضي الله عنها. In more than one chain she reports that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told Ammar that a rebellious group would kill him. This independent transmission strengthens the core prediction without depending only on the mosque-construction route.

The historical fulfillment came much later. Ammar remained a prominent Companion and eventually stood in the ranks of Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه during the Battle of Siffin. Historical reference works record that he was killed there in the year thirty-seven after the Hijrah. That later death gives the earlier prophetic statement its fulfilled historical setting.

The historical fulfillment gives the hadith its clearest significance. Years before Ammar’s death, the Prophet ﷺ foretold that a rebellious group would kill him. Multiple authentic hadith routes preserve that prediction, and Ammar’s death at Siffin supplies the later historical fulfillment. The extraordinary feature is the accurate advance knowledge of a future event that was subsequently realized in history.

Conclusion

The strongest evidence supports a high-confidence prophetic foretelling: the Prophet ﷺ announced years in advance that Ammar ibn Yasir رضي الله عنه would be killed by a rebellious group, and Ammar was later killed at Siffin while with Ali رضي الله عنه.
