این مکان در بغداد مقامی منسوب به ابوالحسین نوری، رحمت خدا بر او باد، است. شخصیت، تعلیم روحانی و وفات او در بغداد در سال ۲۹۵ قمری با منابع کهن بهخوبی پشتیبانی میشود، اما سند مستقل آغازینی که ساختمان کنونی تکیه را قبر اصلی او معرفی کند محدود است. بنابراین مقاله سنت زیارت محلی را حفظ میکند و آن را آشکارا از ادعای آرامگاه کاملا قطعی جدا میسازد.
نام او احمد بن محمد بود و منابع او را بغدادیِ زاده و پرورشیافته با ریشه خراسانی یا بغشوری معرفی میکنند. به ابن بغوی نیز شناخته میشد و از مشایخ بزرگ بغداد در قرن سوم قمری گردید. با سری سقطی، احمد بن ابی الحواری و دیگر زاهدان همراه بود و همروزگار جنید بغدادی، رحمت خدا بر او باد، به شمار میرفت. روایتهایی احترام جنید به صدق و بصیرت روحانی او را نقل کردهاند.
نوری بهویژه برای آموزش محبت خدا، اخلاص، ایثار و رهایی از ادعای نفس یاد میشود. آثار نخستین صوفیانه از روزه و صدقه پنهانی، عبادت طولانی و نگرانی او از جایگزین شدن شهرت ظاهری بهجای حقیقت درونی سخن میگویند. هنگام تحقیق عباسی درباره گروهی از صوفیان، گزارشها میگویند او پیش از یاران خود برای پذیرش مجازات پیش آمد. نویسندگان بعدی این رفتار را نمونه فتوت، وفاداری و شجاعت دانستند، هرچند روایت در سنت زندگینامه صوفیانه باقی میماند.
برخی گزارشها میگویند از بغداد دور شد و مدتی در رقه اقامت کرد و سپس بازگشت. در سال ۲۹۵ قمری درگذشت و منابع کهن سخنان و جایگاه او میان مشایخ بغداد را حفظ کردهاند. چگونگی پیوند ساختمان موجود در اعظمیه با او به همان اندازه در منابع اولیه روشن نیست. حافظه محلی جدید قبر یا مقام او را نزدیک تکیه نوری در بازار میداند؛ بنابراین این رکورد بهعنوان زیارتگاه منسوب حفظ شده است.
ارزش مقام در حفظ یاد معلمی است که عبادت، مهربانی، شجاعت و سخن سنجیده درباره دل را در کنار هم قرار داد. زائر باید بداند که دلیل محکم درباره زندگی و وفات نوری در بغداد است و تعیین ساختمان موجود متأخر و محلی است. پیام پایانی، حفظ اخلاص از نمایش، مقدم داشتن همراهان بر خود و قرار دادن تجربه روحانی در چارچوب دانش، فروتنی و احترام به شریعت است.
