Notes: Classical histories support Imam Ali’s transfer of the caliphal center to Kufa and the events of 36-40 AH. The official Great Mosque of Kufa page supports the present devotional house identity, its approximate position one hundred meters southwest of the mosque, its reported area of about 370 square meters, courtyard, five rooms and well. Some room-by-room associations and domestic details belong to the official devotional tradition and are not treated as independently proven first-century archaeology. The current archaeological survey maps the mosque, rahba, palace and House of Imam Ali area and seeks to reconstruct their structural history; it does not establish that every wall of the present building is original. This is a non-burial ziyarat site; Imam Ali’s recognized grave is in Najaf. | Page/Volume: letters, sermons and testament; pagination varies by edition | Classical histories support Imam Ali’s transfer of the caliphal center to Kufa and the events of 36-40 AH.
