نُقل أنه مولى للإمام الحسين عليه السلام. وتختلف المصادر في نسبته التركية وفي قراءة اسمه بين أسلم وسليم وسليمان، ولا تحفظ أسماء والديه ولا نسبه الكامل على وجه قطعي.
⚔️ الدور في واقعة كربلاء
أحد الموالي غير العرب المعدودين في أنصار الإمام الحسين عليه السلام، وقد حُفظت مشاركته في كربلاء مع اختلاف في قراءة اسمه.
يرد اسم أسلم التركي رضي الله عنه في قوائم الموالي والأنصار المرتبطين بكربلاء، غير أن رسم اسمه ليس واحداً في المصادر. فبعض النقول تسميه أسلم، وبعضها سليم، وبعضها سليمان مولى الإمام الحسين عليه السلام، ولذلك يلزم عرض هويته بحذر. رجح محمد مهدي شمس الدين بعد مقابلة الروايات أن المولى التركي الذي استشهد في كربلاء كان اسمه أسلم، في حين ترد قراءة سليمان في بعض طبعات الطبري، وترد قراءة سليم في بعض كتب الرجال. وهذا ترجيح بحثي، وليس اتفاقاً عاماً يلغي جميع القراءات الأخرى. تصفه كتب المقاتل المتأخرة بأنه غلام تركي، ومولى للإمام الحسين عليه السلام، وقارئ للقرآن، وعارف بالعربية، أو كاتب. ويمكن أن تجتمع بعض هذه الصفات، لكن المصادر المبكرة لا تحفظ سيرة كاملة لتعلمه وخدمته اليومية. يُعَدّ في جملة الأنصار الذين قاتلوا يوم عاشوراء واستشهدوا. أما الرجز المنسوب إليه، وأسماء من واجههم، وترتيب قتاله تفصيلاً، فترد في الغالب في أخبار متأخرة، فلا تُجعل من القطعيات التاريخية المبكرة. وتروي حكاية مشهورة أن الإمام الحسين عليه السلام جاء إلى مولى تركي جريح ووضع وجهه قريباً من وجهه. وتنسب بعض الكتب هذا المشهد إلى واضح الرومي، بينما تربطه كتب أخرى بأسلم. ويكشف هذا التداخل عن وقوع شيء من الخلط بين أخبار الرجلين في النقل المتأخر. لا تحفظ المصادر المتاحة أسماء والديه ولا عمره ولا زواجه ولا أولاده ولا قاتله على وجه متفق قطعي. ولذلك يقتصر ملفه التاريخي الموثوق على كونه مولى للإمام الحسين عليه السلام، ومن الأنصار غير العرب، ومن الشهداء المرتبطين بكربلاء. يرث هذا الملف الموقع الجماعي لشهداء كربلاء ولا يثبت قبراً مستقلاً أو علامة منفردة على الخريطة أو مزاراً خاصاً. ولا تمحو قراءات أسلم وسليم وسليمان أصل ذكره في تقليد الشهداء، لكنها توجب استمرار الحذر عند تفسير كل تفصيل من سيرته.

Al-Tabari preserves Sulayman, mawla of Imam Husayn, while the rijal tradition cited by Ansar al-Husayn has the reading Salim. Ansar al-Husayn, pp. 72-73, gives a scholarly preference for Aslam and distinguishes this figure from Sulayman Abu Razin, the Basran envoy. Later descriptions of Turkish origin, youth, Quran recitation, writing, rajaz and the wounded mawla scene are not all equally early and are kept separate from Wadih al-Rumi.
