Al-Tabari's transmitted account preserves Imam Husayn's Basra letter, its recipients, al-Mundhir ibn al-Jarud's surrender of the envoy and Ibn Ziyad's execution order. Later reports differ between beheading and hanging. The name is transmitted as Sulayman ibn Razin and also with the kunya Abu Razin; later biographical tradition identifies his mother as Kabsha and differs over whether Abu Razin was his own kunya or his father's.
