परिचय
अमीर अल-मुमिनीन इमाम अली इब्न अबी तालिब अलैहिस्सलाम का रौज़ा नजफ़ अशरफ़ में इराक़ के सबसे महान पवित्र और विद्वत स्थलों में है। इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम पैग़म्बर मुहम्मद, उन पर दुरूद और सलाम हो, के चचेरे भाई और दामाद, सैयदा फ़ातिमा अल-ज़हरा सलामुल्लाह अलैहा के पति, इमाम हसन और इमाम हुसैन अलैहिमस्सलाम के पिता, सुन्नी स्मृति में चौथे ख़लीफ़ा-ए-राशिद और शिया मत में पहले इमाम हैं। इस रौज़े के कारण नजफ़ ज़ियारत, शिक्षा, धार्मिक कविता, फ़िक़्ह, कलाम और हौज़ा का केंद्र बना। इसलिए यह केवल दफ़नगाह नहीं, बल्कि ज्ञान, साहस, न्याय, ज़ुह्द, पैग़म्बर के प्रति निष्ठा और अहल अल-बैत की नैतिक नेतृत्व-परंपरा का प्रतीक है.
इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम का जन्म लगभग छह सौ ईस्वी, हिजरत से करीब तेईस वर्ष पहले, मक्का में अबू तालिब इब्न अब्द अल-मुत्तलिब और फ़ातिमा बिन्त असद के घर हुआ। इस्लामी स्मृति बताती है कि पैग़म्बर मुहम्मद, उन पर दुरूद और सलाम हो, ने बचपन से उनकी देखभाल की और वे पैग़म्बर के घर में पले। इस निकटता ने पैग़म्बरी भाषा, आचार, इबादत, सत्य और साहस को उनके चरित्र में आरंभ से स्थापित किया। वे इस्लाम स्वीकार करने वाले प्रारंभिक पुरुषों में थे और शिया परंपरा उन्हें पैग़म्बर की रिसालत पर विश्वास करने वाला पहला पुरुष मानती है। सुन्नी और शिया दोनों स्रोत उनकी प्रारंभिक आस्था और निष्ठा को शुरुआती इस्लाम की उज्ज्वल निशानी मानते हैं.
मक्की दौर में इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम उस समय पैग़म्बर के साथ खड़े रहे जब मुसलमान कमज़ोर और उत्पीड़ित थे। हिजरत की रात, जिसे लैलत अल-मबीत कहा जाता है, वे पैग़म्बर के बिस्तर पर सोए ताकि उनकी जान शत्रुओं की योजना से सुरक्षित रहे; तफ़सीर और मनाक़िब लेखक इस बलिदान को सूरा बक़रा की आयत दो सौ सात से जोड़ते हैं, यद्यपि यह एक तफ़सीरी संबंध है। मदिना हिजरत के बाद वे नवगठित मुस्लिम समाज के स्तंभ बने और लगभग दूसरे हिजरी वर्ष में सैयदा फ़ातिमा अल-ज़हरा सलामुल्लाह अलैहा से विवाह किया। उनका घर सादगी, प्रेम, सेवा, इबादत और सम्मानपूर्ण निर्धनता के लिए जाना गया। इमाम हसन, इमाम हुसैन, सैयदा ज़ैनब, उम्म कुलसूम और रिवायतों में वर्णित बालक मुहसिन पैग़म्बरी परिवार की स्मृति के केंद्रीय नाम बने.
इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम ने पैग़म्बर के लगभग सभी बड़े सैन्य अभियानों में भाग लिया, केवल तबूक में पैग़म्बर ने उन्हें मदिना की देखरेख के लिए छोड़ा और हदीस अल-मंज़िला में कहा कि उनका संबंध पैग़म्बर से वैसा है जैसा हारून का मूसा से, केवल उनके बाद कोई नबी नहीं। वे बद्र, उहुद, ख़ंदक़, ख़ैबर, हुनैन और अन्य मैदानों में उपस्थित रहे। ख़ैबर में पैग़म्बर ने यह कहने के बाद कि झंडा ऐसे व्यक्ति को देंगे जो अल्लाह और उसके रसूल से प्रेम करता है और अल्लाह तथा रसूल भी उससे प्रेम करते हैं, झंडा इमाम अली को सौंपा; यह विवरण प्रमुख हदीस संग्रहों में सुरक्षित है। ख़ंदक़ में अम्र इब्न अब्द वुद के सामने उनका मुक़ाबला भी सीरत और फ़ज़ाइल ग्रंथों में साहस का प्रसिद्ध उदाहरण बना.
ग़दीर ख़ुम की घटना इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम की स्मृति का केंद्रीय भाग है। हज्जत अल-विदा के बाद हदीस साहित्य, जिसमें जामिअ अल-तिर्मिज़ी भी है, पैग़म्बर का कथन सुरक्षित करता है कि जिसका मैं मौला हूँ, अली उसका मौला है। मूल रिपोर्ट व्यापक रूप से सुरक्षित है, यद्यपि मौला शब्द की धार्मिक व्याख्या अलग परंपराओं में समान नहीं। निष्पक्ष प्रस्तुति में अधिक निश्चित बात यह है कि हदीस इमाम अली की प्रतिष्ठा, निकटता, सहायता और उनके प्रेम तथा सम्मान की आवश्यकता प्रकट करती है। तफ़सीर और मनाक़िब में सूरा बक़रा दो सौ सात, आल इमरान इकसठ, माएदा तीन, पचपन और सड़सठ, अहज़ाब तैंतीस, शूरा तेईस और इंसान आठ तथा नौ को उनके और अहल अल-बैत के फ़ज़ाइल से जोड़ा गया है; क्योंकि आयतों की संख्या और व्याख्या स्रोतों में भिन्न है, कोई कृत्रिम निश्चित संख्या नहीं दी जाती.
इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम का पारिवारिक जीवन अहल अल-बैत के इतिहास का आधार है। सैयदा फ़ातिमा अल-ज़हरा सलामुल्लाह अलैहा के साथ उनका संबंध प्रेम, हया, सहयोग, इबादत और कठिनाई में गरिमा का आदर्श माना जाता है। सैयदा फ़ातिमा की वफ़ात के बाद वंशावली ग्रंथ उम्म अल-बनीन फ़ातिमा बिन्त हिज़ाम, ख़ौला बिन्त जाफ़र अल-हनफ़िय्या, अस्मा बिन्त उमैस, लैला बिन्त मसऊद और अन्य पत्नियों का उल्लेख करते हैं, जिनकी सूचियाँ स्रोतों में अलग हैं। इमाम हसन, इमाम हुसैन, सैयदा ज़ैनब और उम्म कुलसूम के अतिरिक्त उनके बच्चों में अब्बास, जाफ़र, अब्दुल्लाह, उस्मान, मुहम्मद इब्न अल-हनफ़िय्या, उमर, रुक़य्या और अन्य नाम आते हैं। विशेष रूप से इमाम हसन और इमाम हुसैन तथा अहल अल-बैत के इमामों के माध्यम से उनकी संतति ने इस्लामी विद्वता, आध्यात्मिकता और वंश-इतिहास में केंद्रीय स्थान पाया.
ज्ञान के क्षेत्र में इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम को ज्ञान का द्वार, क़ुरआन के विद्वान, न्याय और फ़तवे के अधिकारी, अरबी वाक्पटुता के इमाम, आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान के स्रोत और न्याय के मानक के रूप में याद किया गया। इमाम हसन, इमाम हुसैन, अब्दुल्लाह इब्न अब्बास, कुमैल इब्न ज़ियाद, मैसम अल-तम्मार, असबग़ इब्न नुबाता, हारिस अल-हमदानी, अबू अल-असवद अल-दुअली और अनेक प्रारंभिक मुसलमानों ने उनके कथनों, निर्णयों और शिक्षाओं से लाभ लिया। बाद के संग्रह, विशेष रूप से नह्ज अल-बलाग़ा, उनसे संबद्ध ख़ुत्बे, पत्र और ज्ञान-वचन रखते हैं जिनमें न्याय, शासन, ज़ुह्द, तक़वा, लोगों के अधिकार, अधिकारियों की अमानत और सत्ता की जवाबदेही पर बल है। प्रत्येक पाठ की सनद अलग जाँच चाहती है, फिर भी इस विरासत का नैतिक और साहित्यिक प्रभाव मुस्लिम सभ्यता पर असंदिग्ध है.
उस्मान इब्न अफ़्फ़ान की हत्या के बाद इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम पैंतीस हिजरी में ख़लीफ़ा बने। उनका शासन गहरे राजनीतिक संकट, क़िसास की माँग, क़बायली तनाव और सत्ता के प्रतिस्पर्धी दावों से घिरा था। बसरा के निकट जमल, मुआविया के विरुद्ध सिफ़्फ़ीन और ख़वारिज के विरुद्ध नहरवान उनके काल की प्रमुख लड़ाइयाँ थीं। उन्होंने कूफ़ा को शासन का केंद्र बनाया और अधिकारियों को लिखे पत्रों में न्याय, सार्वजनिक अमानत, बैत अल-माल की रक्षा, कमज़ोरों की सहायता, निरंकुशता से बचने और अल्लाह के सामने जवाबदेही पर ज़ोर दिया। कठिन परिस्थितियों के बावजूद उनका शासन राजनीतिक शक्ति को नैतिकता और सार्वजनिक अधिकारों से जोड़ने के महत्वपूर्ण प्रयास के रूप में याद किया जाता है.
इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम की शहादत रमज़ान चालीस हिजरी, छह सौ इकसठ ईस्वी, में कूफ़ा में हुई। ख़ारिजी अब्दुर्रहमान इब्न मुल्जम ने सुबह की नमाज़ के समय मस्जिद कूफ़ा में ज़हर लगी तलवार से प्रहार किया; प्रसिद्ध तिथि उन्नीस रमज़ान को चोट और इक्कीस रमज़ान को वफ़ात है। यह घटना गृहयुद्धों के बाद, ख़वारिज की सक्रियता और मुआविया के साथ जारी राजनीतिक संघर्ष के वातावरण में घटी। ऐतिहासिक और धार्मिक स्मृति बताती है कि इमाम ने अपने हत्यारे के संबंध में भी न्याय का आदेश दिया और सीमा से अधिक बदला लेने से रोका। आरंभ में क़ब्र का स्थान अपमान या हमले से बचाने के लिए गुप्त रखा गया और बाद में नजफ़ उनकी मान्य दफ़नगाह और ज़ियारत का केंद्र बना.
नजफ़ में इमाम अली अलैहिस्सलाम का रौज़ा सदियों से विद्वानों, फ़क़ीहों, कवियों, ज़ाहिदों, शासकों और सामान्य विश्वासियों का केंद्र रहा। प्रारंभिक स्मृति ने क़ब्र को सावधानी से सुरक्षित रखा, फिर लगातार निर्माण और मरम्मत ने इसे सार्वजनिक और भव्य हरम बनाया। हरम का आधिकारिक इतिहास दो सौ तिरासी हिजरी में एक प्रमुख गुंबद और बाद के मुस्लिम राजवंशों तथा संरक्षकों द्वारा पुनर्निर्माण और विस्तार के चरण दर्ज करता है। वर्तमान परिसर में सुनहरा गुंबद, आँगन, इवान, पुस्तकालय, मदरसे, सेवा क्षेत्र और विद्वानों की क़ब्रें हैं, और इसके चारों ओर नजफ़ का महान हौज़ा विकसित हुआ। ज़ायर सलाम, दुआ, फ़ातिहा, न्याय पर चिंतन और अहल अल-बैत से संबंध के लिए आते हैं। यह रौज़ा पैग़म्बरी रिश्ते, प्रारंभिक इस्लामी इतिहास, क़ुरआनी भक्ति, विधिक ज्ञान, आध्यात्मिक साहस, स्थापत्य और मुस्लिम सभ्यता की लंबी स्मृति को एक स्थान पर जोड़ता है.
