او از بنیجابر، شاخهای از قبیله همدان، بود. روایت کهن مالک بن عبد بن سریع را هم پسرعموی پدری و هم برادر مادری او معرفی میکند. جزء پایانی نام در آوانویسیهای گوناگون به صورت سریع، سُریع یا ساری آمده است.

جوانی همدانی از بنیجابر، همراه مالک بن عبد بن سریع رضیاللهعنه و از رزمندگانی که روز عاشورا در پیشگاه امام حسین علیهالسلام به شهادت رسید.
سیف بن حارث بن سریع رضیاللهعنه از بنیجابر، شاخهای از قبیله همدان، بود. فهرست کهن شهدا او را در میان شهدای همدان نام میبرد و نام مالک بن عبد بن سریع رضیاللهعنه را در کنار او قرار میدهد. روایت تفصیلی کهن هر دو را دو جوان از بنیجابر معرفی میکند. آنان از سوی پدر پسرعمو و از سوی مادر برادر بودند و از این رو همراهیشان پیوندی نزدیک خانوادگی نیز داشت. منابع موجود مسیر کامل آنان تا کربلا، زمان دقیق پیوستن یا زندگی مفصل سیف پیش از عاشورا را ثبت نکردهاند. روشنترین حضور تاریخی او در مرحله پایانی روز عاشورا آغاز میشود؛ زمانی که دو جوان به امام حسین علیهالسلام نزدیک شدند. هنگامی که امام را در محاصره دشمن دیدند، گریان نزد او آمدند. امام پرسید چرا گریه میکنند، در حالی که امید دارد به زودی شادی حقیقی نصیبشان شود. آنان پاسخ دادند که بر جان خود گریه نمیکنند، بلکه اندوهشان از این است که امام را محاصرهشده میبینند و با توان اندک خود نمیتوانند آن گونه که شایسته است از او دفاع کنند. این پاسخ شهادتشان را با درد تنهایی امام پیوند میدهد، نه تنها با شور جنگ. امام حسین علیهالسلام دعا کرد که خداوند برای اندوه، همراهی و فداکردن جانشان بهترین پاداش پرهیزگاران را عطا کند. سپس به سوی میدان رفتند، بارها روی به امام کردند و سلام دادند و پاسخ سلام او را شنیدند. گزارش کهن میگوید آن دو در کنار هم جنگیدند تا به شهادت رسیدند. نام قاتلان، شمار دشمنان کشتهشده یا ضربات جداگانه آنان در همان روایت محفوظ نیست؛ بنابراین افزودههای ناهماهنگ متأخر به عنوان یقین عرضه نمیشود. این پرونده قبر یا زیارتگاه مستقلی برای سیف اثبات نمیکند. نسبت جغرافیایی او از مکان مشترک شهدای کربلا گرفته شده و یاد شهادت جمعی او را حفظ میکند.
🏛️ اهمیت تاریخی
اهمیت سیف در گفتوگوی حفظشدهای است که احساس و وفاداری آگاهانه جوانان یار امام حسین علیهالسلام را مستقیم نشان میدهد. گریه او از ترس جان نبود، بلکه از دیدن محاصره امام سرچشمه میگرفت. پیشروی مشترک سیف و مالک، خویشاوندی، همراهی و تصمیم اخلاقی واحد را در کنار هم قرار میدهد. روایت کهن آنان را با حمایت متقابل به یاد میآورد، نه با ادعای شهرت فردی. داستان آنان همچنین نشان میدهد که تاریخ مسئولانه نباید در جایی که منبع خاموش است، نام قاتل، شمار کشتهها یا خطابههای مفصل بسازد. مکان مشترک کربلا یاد شهادت جمعی آنان را حفظ میکند و از ساختن قبر مستقل یا نشان مکانی تأییدنشده جلوگیری مینماید.
