अब्दुल्लाह इब्न जाफ़र अल-तय्यार रज़ियल्लाहु अन्हु के पुत्र, जाफ़र अल-तय्यार रज़ियल्लाहु अन्हु के पौत्र और इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम के निकट हाशिमी संबंधी। प्रसिद्ध वंशावली और इमामी परंपरा उन्हें हज़रत ज़ैनब बिन्त अली सलामुल्लाह अलैहा का पुत्र और औन अल-अकबर मानती है; अब्दुल्लाह के औन अल-असग़र नामक दूसरे पुत्र के कारण कुछ मातृ वंशावलियों में मिश्रण हुआ है।

The Abu Mikhnaf/Tabari martyr report identifies Abdullah ibn Qutbah al-Nabahani al-Ta'i as Awn's killer. The Tasmiyat text transmits Jumanah as the mother but its critical note states that the Karbala martyr was Awn al-Akbar, son of Lady Zaynab, whereas Awn son of Jumanah was Awn al-Asghar.
