Al-Fudayl ibn al-Zubayr's early Tasmiyat roster records Munjih as a mawla of Imam Husayn and names Hassan ibn Bakr al-Hanzali as his killer. It does not supply the patronymic ibn Sahm. Later biographical and genealogical works identify him as Munjih ibn Sahm, preserve the variant Munhij, give Sahm as his father, describe his mother as a freed household attendant, and associate him with the Ahl al-Bayt household. Later sources also place him in the first general assault. The shared-parent location does not establish an individual grave.
