🌿 वंश और पारिवारिक पृष्ठभूमि

वे बनी जाबिर से थे, जो हमदान क़बीले की एक शाखा थी। प्राचीन वर्णन मालिक बिन अब्द बिन सुरैअ को उनका पैतृक चचेरा भाई और मातृ-पक्ष से भाई दोनों बताता है। नाम का अंतिम भाग सुरैअ, सरीअ या सारी जैसे रूपों में मिलता है।

हज़रत सैफ़ बिन अल-हारिस बिन सुरैअ, अल्लाह उनसे प्रसन्न हो, बनी जाबिर से थे, जो हमदान क़बीले की एक शाखा थी। शहीदों की प्राचीन सूची उन्हें हमदानी शहीदों में गिनती है और उनके साथ हज़रत मालिक बिन अब्द बिन सुरैअ का नाम रखती है। विस्तृत प्राचीन वर्णन दोनों को बनी जाबिर के दो युवक बताता है। वे पिता की ओर से चचेरे भाई और माता की ओर से भाई थे, इसलिए उनकी संगति में घनिष्ठ पारिवारिक संबंध भी शामिल था। उपलब्ध स्रोत कर्बला तक उनकी पूरी यात्रा, उनके जुड़ने की सही तारीख़ या आशूरा से पहले सैफ़ के जीवन का विस्तृत इतिहास सुरक्षित नहीं रखते। उनका सबसे स्पष्ट ऐतिहासिक उल्लेख आशूरा के अंतिम चरण में आरंभ होता है, जब दोनों युवक इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम के निकट आए। इमाम को शत्रु से घिरा देखकर वे रोते हुए पास पहुँचे। इमाम ने पूछा कि वे क्यों रो रहे हैं, जबकि उन्हें आशा है कि बहुत शीघ्र उन्हें वास्तविक प्रसन्नता प्राप्त होगी। उन्होंने उत्तर दिया कि वे अपने प्राणों के लिए नहीं रो रहे, बल्कि इसलिए दुखी हैं कि इमाम को घिरा हुआ देखते हैं और अपनी सीमित शक्ति से उनकी वैसी रक्षा नहीं कर सकते जैसी करनी चाहिए। यह उत्तर उनकी शहादत को केवल युद्ध-उत्साह से नहीं, बल्कि इमाम की दशा के दर्द से जोड़ता है। इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम ने दुआ की कि अल्लाह उनके दुख, संगति और प्राणों से सहायता करने पर उन्हें परहेज़गारों का सर्वोत्तम प्रतिफल दे। वे मैदान की ओर बढ़े, बार-बार इमाम की ओर मुड़कर सलाम किया और इमाम ने उनके सलाम का उत्तर दिया। प्राचीन वर्णन कहता है कि दोनों साथ लड़ते रहे और शहीद हो गए। उसी वर्णन में उनके हत्यारों के नाम, शत्रुओं की संख्या या अलग-अलग प्रहारों का विवरण सुरक्षित नहीं है, इसलिए बाद की असमान बातों को निश्चित सत्य के रूप में नहीं रखा गया। यह परिचय सैफ़ के लिए अलग क़ब्र या स्वतंत्र मज़ार सिद्ध नहीं करता। उनका भौगोलिक संबंध कर्बला के शहीदों के सामूहिक स्थान से है, जो उनकी संयुक्त शहादत की स्मृति सुरक्षित रखता है।
