The early Tasmiyat list securely identifies Sayf ibn Malik among the Abd al-Qays martyrs from Basra. Later biographical material supports the al-Nimri form and the Basran circle at the house of Mariya bint Munqidh, while the Rajabiyya preserves the reading Sufyan ibn Malik.
