यमन के हमदान क़बीले की शिबाम शाखा से संबद्ध कूफ़ी सहायक। मुख्य नाम हंज़ला इब्न असअद अल-शिबामी है, जबकि कुछ पांडुलिपियों में पिता का नाम सअद मिलता है। कुछ सूचियाँ सअद इब्न हंज़ला को अलग शहीद मानती हैं, इसलिए उस उलटे रूप को इस प्रोफ़ाइल का वैकल्पिक नाम नहीं रखा गया। उपलब्ध स्रोत माता-पिता, पत्नी या संतानों का विवरण निश्चित रूप से सुरक्षित नहीं रखते।

Abu Mikhnaf's report as preserved by al-Tabari supports the Qur'anic warning, Imam Husayn's response, Hanzala's farewell, combat and martyrdom. Tasmiyat and Rijal al-Tusi support the Hanzala al-Shibami identity. The inspected Karbala section of al-Irshad does not contain this Hanzala report, so that citation was removed. Hanzala ibn Sa'd remains a manuscript variant, while Sa'd ibn Hanzala may be a separate martyr and is no longer treated as an alias. A messenger role, exact killer, age, rajaz and casualty count remain unsupported or unstable.
