He was a son of Yazid ibn Thubayt of Abd al-Qays in Basra and a brother of Ubayd Allah ibn Yazid. Variants in the father's name include Yazid or Zayd and Thubayt or Nubayt; identification through his father and brother is the strongest basis for his profile.

A supporter who left Basra with his father Yazid ibn Thubayt and his brother Ubayd Allah to join Imam Husayn, Peace Be Upon Him, and was killed at Karbala.
Abd Allah ibn Yazid ibn Thubayt is preserved within the family group that came from Basra under the leadership of his father Yazid ibn Thubayt al-Abdi. His clearest historical identification is through his father and his brother Ubayd Allah. The family belonged to Abd al-Qays. The sources vary between Yazid and Zayd and between Thubayt and Nubayt for the father's name, and the alternative forms of Abd Allah's full name arise from the same textual variation. According to the narrative preserved by al-Tabari, Yazid ibn Thubayt informed his ten sons of his intention to travel in support of Imam Husayn, Peace Be Upon Him. Abd Allah and Ubayd Allah chose to accompany their father. Abd Allah departed with his father, his brother, and a small number of other Basran supporters. The group travelled by a less populated route, reached al-Abtah near Mecca, and joined the caravan of Imam Husayn. He accompanied Imam Husayn to Karbala and was killed on Ashura with his father and brother. The available early account does not preserve his separate age, occupation, individual speech, attack, killer, or exact sequence of martyrdom. Later martyr lists remember him as a loyal son and a participant in the journey of support. That memory is retained without turning a concise name-list entry into a fictional detailed biography. This profile inherits the collective Karbala martyrs location. It does not establish a separate grave, an independent shrine, or a distinct map marker for Abd Allah ibn Yazid, May Allah Be Pleased With Him.

Abd Allah ibn Yazid is important within the family support that came from Basra. He voluntarily accepted his father's invitation to travel, revealing shared moral responsibility across generations and within a household. His concise biography is also an example of source integrity. The father, brother, departure from Basra, and martyrdom are preserved, but his age, killer, speech, and individual combat detail are not; respectful history should stop at that evidentiary boundary. The shared-location relationship preserves his memory within the collective site of the martyrs of Karbala and avoids an unsupported separate grave or shrine.

Al-Tabari's Abu Mikhnaf narrative supports Abd Allah's identification through his father Yazid ibn Thubayt, his brother Ubayd Allah, the departure from Basra, meeting Imam Husayn at al-Abtah and martyrdom at Karbala. This atlas does not accept or reject a report solely because of an author’s school affiliation. Abu Mikhnaf was an early Kufan collector whose material was also preserved by broad Muslim historians such as al-Tabari; Shaykh al-Mufid was an Imami scholar who used earlier historical material in al-Irshad. Each claim is presented after considering chronological proximity, transmission, shared-source dependence, and comparison with other works.
